The Rig season two, starring Line of Duty star Martin Compston, has confirmed a release date of January 2, 2025.
The news was announced along with a first-look trailer and official season two stills, which teased the upcoming episodes.

It was also revealed that the cast of The Rig reunited at a special screening at The Everyman in Edinburgh today (December 4).
Compston was joined by his co-stars Iain Glen (Game of Thrones), Rochenda Sandall (Line of Duty), Mark Addy (Game of Thrones) and Emily Hampshire (Schitt's Creek).

The cast also includes Stuart McQuarrie (of ITV's Des), Owen Teale (Game of Thrones) and Molly Vevers (The Spanish Princess), with new additions for season two that include Phil McKee (of Channel 4's Deadwater Fell) and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd (from Netflix's The Queen's Gambit).
Speaking at the screening, Compston said he thought "this new series has stepped up this time" and shared his excitement over its impending release.
The returning show, which is set in Scotland, will pick back up with the surviving crew of the Kinloch Bravo, following the mysterious events of the first season. The synopsis reveals that they "must deal with the emotional and physical fallout" of what they had faced on that foggy North Sea rig, while contending with "swirling conspiracies, corporate conflicts, and new threats from the dark depths of the world's ocean".

The Prime Video series has been created and written by David Macpherson, who grew up in Scotland and has previously spoken about his childhood inspiration.
"They've always towered over my life and my dad used to work offshore," he previously told The Sunday Post. "He's always told me lots of stories and that world has fascinated me, so I really wanted to find a way to put it on the screen."
John Strickland (of Line of Duty and Bodyguard) directs alongside Alex Holmes (The Letter for the King).
The Rig season 2 will launch on Prime Video on January 2, 2025.
