Former Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo has been diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer after having a tumour removed last week.

The 29-year-old actor, who played Chris Harrington on Home and Away, underwent emergency surgery to remove a tumour from his brain.

Taking to Instagram to share an update on his condition today (August 17), Ruffo confirmed that the tumour was found to be cancerous.

He said: "So I have the news. It was a bit of a shock and i've got an interesting journey ahead and a bit of a battle. I am starting aggressive treatment for the next few months to fight the diagnosis of brain cancer.

"Please stay positive for me and ill try to update you guys on my progress."

The actor and singer, who shot to fame on The X Factor Australia, previously revealed that he had originally only gone to the hospital because of a migraine.
