A legal drama from the early 2010s has been enjoying a renaissance on ITVX, where it's been drawing in new fans — 14 years after making the air. A sequel to a John Grisham novel and movie adaptation, the series in question hails from creator Lukas Reiter, whose writing credits include The Practice and its spinoff, Boston Legal.

We're talking about The Firm, a continuation of Grisham's book of the same name published in 1991. The novel was adapted for the big screen in Sydney Pollack's The Firm, starring Tom Cruise as recent Harvard Law graduate Mitch McDeere, who uncovers ties between a prominent law firm and a Chicago mob syndicate.

10 years after Mitch helped topple the corrupted law firm, Josh Lucas takes on the lead role in Reiter's The Firm. Now out of witness protection, Mitch sets up his own law firm while sleeping with one eye open due to possible mob retaliation.

The Firm originally aired on AXN between January and July 2012. Comprised of 22 episodes — those were the days of the US broadcast model, with longer seasons and weekly episodes — the first and only season of the prematurely axed series is now available to watch on ITVX.

The show is now making up for its disappointing original ratings by rallying up new viewers this side of the pond, where ITV has branded it a "gritty" thriller juggling corruption, deception and deadly secrets.

What to Read Next

Alongside Lucas as Mitch, The Firm also stars Molly Parker as Mitch's wife, elementary school teacher Abigail Sutherland 'Abby' McDeere, Callum Keith Rennie as Mitch's brother Raymond 'Ray' McDeere, who works as a private investigator after a stint in prison, and Juliette Lewis as Tamara Inez 'Tammy' Hemphill, Ray's girlfriend and Mitch's secretary.

Also starring are Natasha Calis as Mitch and Abby's ten-year-old daughter Claire, Tricia Helfer as Alex Clark, Martin Donovan as Kevin Stack, Gianpaolo Venuta as Joey Morolto Jr, and Shaun Majumder as Andrew Palmer.

The Firm is streaming on ITVX.
