Hollyoaks has aired a heartbreaking twist for Warren Fox in tonight's special flashback episode.
The soap recently confirmed that Jamie Lomas would be returning to the role of Warren for the special episode, which promised to reveal some of the events from Hollyoaks' missing year.
In 2024, the soap jumped forward a year to accommodate the change in schedule after it was cut from five episodes a week to three.
In the last few months, Freddie Roscoe and Mercedes McQueen, who was previously in a relationship with Warren, have fallen in love while Freddie was married to Grace Black.

In today's flashback episode, we learned that Freddie stopped Mercedes going away with Warren – a key detail that Mercedes doesn't know to this day.
With Joel Dexter's grief too much to bear, he headed out to buy drugs but was stunned to find his dad, Warren, who punched him in the face, saying: "The only smack you'll be getting from me is this."
Warren told Joel he had come back to the village to take Mercedes and her children away with him. "When I go back to Ecuador tonight, I am taking the three of them with me," he said.

At the McQueens, we learned that Mercedes, who has since been diagnosed with bowel cancer, was experiencing bowel changes, including blood in her poo, prompting her to schedule a colonoscopy.
At the hospital, Misbah Maalik gave Mercedes the news that further tests were required, leaving her in distress.
Outside the hospital, Warren enlisted Arlo Fielding to help him deliver a letter to Mercedes, and Freddie encountered them both in the car park.
"Leaving here without Mercedes and my girls was the biggest mistake I ever made, which is why I'm taking them back with me," Warren told Freddie.

After Warren told Freddie about the letter and his plan, Freddie paid Arlo to give him the letter and he chose not to give it to Mercedes.
Later, a heartbroken Warren, who was unaware Mercedes hadn't received the letter, drove off in frustration, without Mercedes.
Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
