Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson is reportedly leaving her role as Maxine Minniver after more than 10 years on the soap.

The Sun reports that the actor, who debuted as Maxine in 2012, will be filming her final scenes next month and that her exit will play out on screen in May, with the star keen to take on new roles.

Digital Spy has reached out to Hollyoaks, but the soap has declined to comment.

Maxine has become one of Hollyoaks' longest standing characters, and has been involved in a number of high-profile storylines.

After first arriving in search of her sister Mitzeee, she was later involved in an abusive marriage with villain Patrick Blake, going on to have daughter Minnie with him.

She has since been married another two times - to Adam Donovan and Damon Kinsella - and has had other relationships with Dodger Savage, Warren Fox and Carter Shepherd.

Maxine's other big plots have included killing trafficker Fergus Collins, discovering that Dave Chen-Williams was her biological dad, her experience with Munchausen syndrome and being attacked during the soap's special Long Walk Home episode.

Sanderson, who has also starred in Coronation Street as Candice Stowe, has not yet spoken out about her potential Hollyoaks exit.

The star is in a long-term relationship with fellow soap actor Anthony Quinlan, who played Hollyoaks' Gilly Roach and Emmerdale's Pete Barton.

The couple confirmed that they were dating in 2022, with Quinlan revealing that he made the first move after he "slid into the DMs".

Hollyoaks airs on Mondays-Wednesdays with its Channel 4 streaming premiere at 7am, then an E4 broadcast the same night at 7pm. Full episodes are also released on YouTube a week after their Channel 4 release.
