Hollyoaks star Nadine Mulkerrin has opened up about working with her fiancé on the soap.
Mulkerrin, who plays Cleo McQueen, is in a real-life relationship with Rory Douglas-Speed (Joel Dexter), and their characters have a lot of history too – with the pair almost getting married in 2018.
The road accident earlier this month, which Cleo was involved in, marked her surprise return to the show and reunited her with Joel, who was working as a firefighter at the scene.

In a twist, Joel was later hit by a truck and was seriously injured, and Cleo recently saved his life when his condition deteriorated in the hospital.

"Rory is renowned for being a giggler," she said, "he’s the worst! I love working with him, but because of childcare, it’s actually easier when we don’t work together."
Cleo revealed that she had returned to the village for Joel, but while fans might be rooting for a reunion between the two characters, Joel is now in a relationship with Leela Lomax.

Co-executive producer Hannah Cheers has teased a love triangle between the characters, citing Cleo and Joel as "one of the best love stories that we’ve ever told".
Mulkerrin shared her thoughts on the rival pairings, and admitted that she might not want an on-screen reunion with her off-screen partner.
She said: “Joel was Cleo’s true love – they’ve been connected for a very long time. I think in Cleo’s mind she thought there’s still something between them, but Joel is with someone else. Cleo has been gone for two years, so she can’t just pick up where she left off.
"I think the audience are very much team Leela and Joel and I agree with the viewers that Joel and Cleo have been done to death a little bit. I actually love Leela and Joel’s relationship, so it will be interesting, especially because Cleo’s come back to the village with Abe."
Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
