Hollyoaks spoilers follow.
Hollyoaks actor David Ames has revealed what the future holds for Maxine Minniver and Carter Shepherd as their relationship develops further.
The pair have grown closer in recent months, but viewers are aware that Carter’s feelings really lie with John Paul McQueen, and his relationship with Maxine is a way of suppressing his true sexuality.
In scenes that will air soon, Carter will take things to the next level and ask Maxine to be his girlfriend, after the pair discuss religion and relationships.

He was also full of praise for co-star Nikki Sanderson, who plays Maxine, saying: "Nikki is wonderful to work with. She’s so gorgeous and we have a lot of fun but ultimately Carter is living these lies which are going to be found out."
For the last few months, Carter has played a role in a hard-hitting conversion therapy storyline, with the Hollyoaks High headteacher trying to practice on teacher John Paul – despite his feelings for him.
This month, Carter has also set his sights on counselling teen Lucas Hay, who is unsure about his sexuality and his feelings for fellow student Dillon Ray.

In last night’s episode on E4 (January 23), Carter was confronted by Hannah Ashworth, who told him she knows about the conversion therapy after overhearing a conversation.
The confrontation suddenly turned violent, with Carter losing his temper and pushing Hannah to the floor, knocking her unconscious and placing her body in the boot of his van.
However in a twist, when he later returned to his vehicle, Hannah was gone, with Carter left wondering how she had managed to escape.
For the conversion therapy storyline, Hollyoaks writers have collaborated with reporter Josh Parry, who went undercover to expose the conversion practices of a church in Liverpool.
Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
