Former Coronation Street star Keith Duffy almost stopped his son Jay from appearing in Hollyoaks.
Starring as Declan Brady in Hollyoaks from 2011 to 2012, Jay's dad said the teenage star wasn't allowed to give up school to appear on the soap full-time.
"When Jay did Hollyoaks when he was 13 and 14, they wanted to house school him and have him on the show full-time," explained Keith in an interview with The Sun.
"Jay really wanted to do that but I said no. I said he could do holiday times but I told him he had to go to school, get his GCSEs and his A-Levels.

The Boyzone singer said he "wasn't a popular daddy" when he made the decision to put his son's education first but he wanted Jay to have something to fall back on if his acting career didn't work out.

"I know how difficult it is to be an actor. You can have a pipe dream and hold onto that for too long and nothing happens and you’ve wasted half your life and don’t have an education," said Duffy.
Despite putting his foot down, the former Coronation Street star said he never pressured his children into choosing careers.

"I’ve never put pressure on my kids. I let them just find their way and tried to encourage them to do whatever excited them or whatever they wanted to do.
Things seem to have worked out for Jay Duffy even though his dad didn't let him star full-time in Hollyoaks as the actor has plenty of upcoming projects on the way.
"He’s had a lot of work, he’s been in Derry Girls and had a couple of movies and now he’s working on two really, really big international projects," said his proud dad.
Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
Selected omnibus episodes are available via Amazon Prime Video.
