Hollyoaks shocked viewers with a revelation about Mercedes McQueen's blackmail mystery in Thursday's (July 11) first-look episode on E4.
Earlier this week, Mercedes (Jennifer Metcalfe) received an alarming text message from an unknown sender warning her that they knew about her recent fling with Liam Donovan (Jude Monk McGowan).
Her paranoia over the threats risked ruining her attempts to reconcile with husband Sylver McQueen (David Tag) and mother-in-law Breda (Moya Brady), especially since her instinct pointed to Breda as the culprit.
After some investigating at their mother and daughter-in-law picnic, Mercedes was perplexed to discover that Breda couldn't be the blackmailer because she received more texts during their lunch.
With no other option, Mercedes begged Liam to help her quietly figure out who was behind the plot — threatening that if he didn't sort out the mystery, their affair would be over!
Shortly thereafter, Liam stumbled on the truth back at home when he found Grace's (Tamara Wall) phone while looking for the TV remote… and discovered that she'd been the one sending the texts!
