Tonight's visit to Hollyoaks conjured up a lot of surprises for viewers as two beloved characters waved goodbye to the village – and Breda McQueen's killer secret may have been rumbled too.

Last night's episode saw Breda murder fan-favourite Louis Loveday, and on Tuesday's (January 22) E4 first-look episode, the killer was desperate to cover her own tracks after accidentally sending a warning text message from Louis' phone.

With the message being delivered to Simone, Breda quickly fled to Price Slice to check on her, and when it became clear that Simone hadn't read the text yet, Breda managed to delete the message without getting caught, meaning she was probably in the clear.

Later on, Breda destroyed all the evidence she could think of by incinerating Louis' clothes and his phone to cover up his death – but it looks like her days as a free woman might be slipping away, as viewers then saw a mysterious gloved hand remove the SIM card out of Louis' melted phone.

Has Breda been rumbled? And just who does this gloved hand belong to, anyway?

Meanwhile, Simone's plans to go to Derby were scuppered (for the better!) after Martine offered up her air miles, allowing Simone to go to Jamaica instead.

And, as if one goodbye wasn't enough, the episode also saw Zack get a phone call from Holly, who told him that she loves him too, prompting Zack to travel to Paris to join her, leaving Lisa waving goodbye to her mum and her brother at the airport.

We hate goodbyes!

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first look screenings at 7pm on E4.
