Emmerdale star Daisy Campbell has revealed how she really felt over being axed from the ITV soap.

The actor had played Amelia Spencer for 13 years, but confirmed last October that she would be leaving the show and that it wasn't her choice. Her final scenes aired just before Christmas.

In a new interview with The Sun, she recalled how she felt at the time.

"When it's been ripped away from you, because that's what it genuinely felt like, it was so out of the blue — you do just get into a bit of a hole of, 'Oh god, can I do this?'" she said.

The actor added that she had a "gut feeling" about being dropped after her on-screen dad Liam Fox left the year before.

"It was at the beginning of the year, things were quiet," she recalled. "Obviously, we had the new producer come in.

"And then when it came to contracts, nothing came through, so I was like, 'Oh…' and then obviously it happened. It was upsetting, because I loved it, and I loved the job. You always think selfishly, 'Why is this happening? Why me?'"

Campbell said that she missed out on a lot of her childhood due to the show, but wouldn't have changed her experience.

"It was always such a hard job, but I never wanted to leave because Emmerdale's the most stable job you will have in an acting career," she continued.

Since her Emmerdale exit, she has worked on a proof-of-concept film and appeared in an episode of Casualty.

But while she isn't getting as much acting work as she was before, despite a lot of auditions for "amazing people", she has decided to create her own stable business and open a pilates studio with the help of her grandfather.

"I want to take a bad situation, because it was a bad situation last year, and put it into something positive and just bring people together," she said.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX and YouTube.
