Emmerdale spoilers follow from Tuesday's episode (29 July), which is available to watch now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn't yet aired on ITV1.

Emmerdale's Cain Dingle has unleashed his nasty side on a surprising target, amid Moira's feud with Joe Tate.

Moira has been struggling to keep Butler's Farm afloat, after being hit with an eye-watering fine for the recent slurry leak. As the news spread around the village, Joe was quick to take advantage of the situation by offering to buy the property.

The farmer refused the offer but persistent Joe revealed he had a few tricks up his sleeve to get what he wants.

Last night's episode saw break-in at the farm, as two masked intruders threatened Moira's stepson Kyle. After scaring them off with a shotgun, Moira called the police, but was later told there was insufficient evidence to continue the investigation.

Convinced Joe was responsible for the intrusion, a furious Moira took matters into her own hands. But things escalated at Hope Farm and when Moira tried to hit Joe, Lydia Dingle stepped in, accidentally receiving the blow.

In today's episode, Moira is arrested on suspicion of assault and taken to the station for questioning. While waiting for her solicitor, DS Swirling reveals that she could be facing six months in prison.

Meanwhile, Joe visits Lydia and Sam to apologise for his involvement in the spat. He claims he had nothing to do with the break-in, insisting: "It is not how I operate."

Joe enquires if Lydia has spoken to the police, and when she tells him she wouldn't report Moira, he admits he already has. The Dingles are horrified to be put in such a difficult position with their family.

Later, Cain tells Lydia to make up a story to the police in order to protect Moira. When Lydia refuses, he asserts that it "isn't a request", adding: "You do as you're told."

Lydia tries to stand her ground, but he issues a nasty threat, implying trouble if she refuses his order. He glares at her before storming off, leaving Lydia shaken up.

At the Woolpack, its revealed that Moira has been released from the police station after the complaint was dropped. She hurries over to apologise to a badly bruised Lydia, who explains that it was actually Joe who revoked his statement.

The atmosphere is frosty between the Dingles as Sam accuses Cain of bullying his wife. Cain tells Sam he should be siding with his family, instead of the Tates, and when Lydia defends Joe, he calls her "thick".

Cain declares that his brother needs to "pick a side", to which Sam replies: "I've already picked one and it isn't yours!". Will this new divide aid Joe's plan to secure the farm?

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
