Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's Fred Kettle has explained the real reason why Dylan Penders has returned to the village.

Dylan first appeared on screen earlier this year as a friend of April Windsor. The pair met while April was living on the streets, and when she returned to the Dales, Dylan soon followed.

Back in March, drug addict Dylan exited the soap as he made his way to rehab. However, this week's episodes will see Penders reprising his role.

While visiting her mother's grave, April spots Dylan hiding in the bushes and encourages him to show his face. The friends catch up at the graveyard, with Dylan sharing that he's now clean from drugs.

Unbeknownst to April, Dylan is suffering from a nasty injury after breaking into Butler's Farm. Is there more to his story than meets the eye?

In a new video shared by Emmerdale's Instagram account, Penders sat down with co-star Mark Charnock (Marlon Dingle) to discuss his upcoming return.

The actor addressed why Dylan was drawn back to the Dales, revealing: "I think it's got to be April. Absolutely. I think they formed such a deep connection. There's chemistry between them."

When asked if Dylan felt any romantic feelings towards April, Penders said his character is "unsure".

"I don't even think he's thinking about it. He's just going with the flow. He wants to see her," he explained.

Meanwhile, Penders also addressed whether Dylan would be nervous to see Marlon, saying their relationship has "a weird chemistry".

"It was almost like a father-son relationship, wasn't it?" he told Charnock. "And I think they were both confused about what that feeling was, whether that's gonna, you know, go anywhere, we'll see."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
