Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale is set to introduce new villain Celia next week, played by Casualty, Doctors and The Bill star Jaye Griffiths.

She will make quite the first impression, as she forms an instant rivalry with Moira Dingle and makes an enemy of Paddy when her dog attacks him and she offers no sympathy.

Although his character may not like her, Paddy's actor Dominic Brunt has nothing but praise for Celia.

"I don't think anybody's come across anyone like Celia before! She's brilliant," he said.

"She's a true baddie. And in the same way that like classic baddies, like Kim Tate, for example, the way that they actually enjoy being a baddie, the reason they are a villain is because they enjoy being a villain, you know, not because they have any choice, but they enjoy it.

"And she's got that, you know, she really likes toying with people. She's got nothing to lose.

"She's in her own space and time, and she's in charge, and you'll never get one past her."

He even went so far as to call Celia "one of the best baddies, I think, that soaps have seen in a good long time."

Griffiths also spoke about the Paddy confrontation, revealing that "Celia's response is to deny she even has a dog, when she clearly does! If she says it enough times, Paddy will start to doubt his own sanity – that's how she works.

"She reframes reality to shut you down. Celia contradicts herself and forgets which lies she's told people so nothing is ever her fault."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
