Emmerdale spoilers follow from Wednesday's episode (4 June), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn't yet aired on ITV1.

Emmerdale reveals Ruby Miligan's surprising saviour tonight as she faces the threat of a long stretch in prison.

Ruby's future hangs in the balance following her drastic decision to confess to the murder of her abusive father Anthony Fox.

The fan favourite is left mortified in Wednesday's hour-long episode as she realises that she acted too hastily when she went to the police.

Ruby decided to come clean following the news that a body had been found in a nearby lake. She presumed that this was the location where John Sugden secretly disposed of Anthony's remains following his death.

After Ruby shares a version of events – leaving out any involvement from co-conspirators – the police inform her that the body in the lake is not Anthony.

This makes her confession pointless and she immediately tries to backtrack, cooking up a plan with her solicitor to get herself out of trouble.

Ruby decides to pretend to be delusional, so that the police think she was struggling with her mental health when she made her confession.

Meanwhile, Joe Tate becomes aware of the troubling events unfolding and makes his own sneaky plan to help Ruby.
