Long-running Emmerdale star Gabrielle Dowling is set to take a short break from the soap for an important reason.
The star, who has played Cathy Hope on the soap since she was a baby, is reported to be taking some time away and will return later in the year, according to The Sun.
Digital Spy understands that the break is temporary, and will only be short, in order for Gabrielle to take her A-level exams.

This isn't the first time that the actor has taken a break from Emmerdale, with the star exiting the show temporarily in 2023 due to school commitments.
That departure saw Cathy take some time away in the Lake District to visit her brother Scott Windsor amid her struggles with Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and being held back a year at school. It is currently unclear how her character will exit this time.

In other news, Gabrielle has recently opened up about the big 2023 stunt that saw her character's on-screen brother Heath killed off.
"The main night scenes took a couple of days," she explained to Inside Soap. "But with the build-up and the aftermath of it all, it was about two weeks. It was brilliant, because we hadn't done anything that different before. There was a lot going on. Emmerdale brought in a car that was modified, so we weren't actually driving."

She added: "Everyone mucked in together to get [the scenes] done in the space of time that we did. It was night scenes as well, which is very different because it's cold and dark, but we have the best cast and the best crew.
"We filmed until about three or four o'clock in the morning, which was weird because we'd get on set, and they'd do breakfast at 4pm. It was so different, but so good."
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
