Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Georgia Jay has shared more details of two shocking discoveries on the way for her character Steph Miligan next week.

Steph has a huge week of episodes coming up as she grows increasingly suspicious over the mysterious disappearance of Anthony Fox.

Steph's mum Ruby killed her abusive father Anthony in January and has since covered up the crime with help from her husband Caleb, Aaron Dingle, Chas Dingle, Cain Dingle and John Sugden.

In upcoming scenes, Steph realises that there's more to Anthony's sudden departure than meets the eye as she receives a phone call from one of his friends, who hasn't heard from him for weeks.

In a new interview, Georgia explained: "Steph gets a phone call from a friend of Anthony's in France. It turns out that Anthony was meant to be turning up there for a visit.

"This friend calls the landline at Mill Cottage and asks about Anthony's whereabouts. Steph answers the call and gets chatting to him, but Ruby is also in the room and snatches the phone from her.

"So before Steph is even able to ask this guy any questions, figure out when the invitation was sent for his visit and put a timeline together, Ruby shuts down the conversation really quickly.

"That just gives Steph another sense that something is being covered up here. She wonders why Ruby and Caleb are not concerned about Anthony's disappearance. They're not really alarmed, so that gives Steph more ammo to find out further details."

Georgia revealed that Ruby's strange reaction to the phone call makes matters much worse.

She said: "Ruby's behaviour has been odd – it couldn't be more of a giveaway! She's not hiding it, that's for sure!

"There's all sorts going on with Ruby – verbally, physically and in her behaviour. It's just not adding up for Steph."

Later in the week, Steph's impressive detective work continues as she finds a gun hidden away in the safe at Mill Cottage.

When Steph confronts her parents with the weapon and demands to know what's going on, Caleb is forced to come up with yet another cover story.

Georgia laughed: "I didn't know the safe at Mill Cottage was even there, but Steph clearly did! She's really clever and she's putting it all together slowly.

"Once she has the revolver, Steph doesn't hang around before confronting Caleb and Ruby. Caleb is straight away very defensive and comes up with some story about how the gun was intended as a threat to Cain, because it's when he found out about Ruby and Cain sleeping together.

"Caleb is quite quick and comes up with this elaborate story, which seems like it could be true. However, there are still flaws in the story and things that don't match.

"Steph goes over to Cain to have quite a down-to-earth conversation and ask him straight. She gives him an opportunity to confirm the story and find out whether Caleb is lying or not."

As the week draws to a close, Steph reaches her breaking point and decides that it's time to report Caleb and Ruby to the police.

The local force has already expressed concerns over Anthony's sudden disappearance, so could this lead to another round of questioning?

Georgia added: "Steph has got to a bit of a dead end and she's fed up. I don't think she fully believes that Caleb and Ruby killed Anthony, but it's an idea she has.

"The analogy I have is that you can think something, but it doesn't mean you fully believe it. It's a bit like suspecting someone is cheating on you – you can suspect it but you don't know for sure.

"Steph just wants this thing solved, but she hits a brick wall because Cain does confirm Caleb's story and Steph doesn't know who she can trust.

"It's all closing in on her, because she doesn't know who's lying and covering things up. She sees it as a last resort to go to the police and throw her parents under the bus."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
