Emmerdale spoilers follow from Thursday's episode (January 16), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn't yet aired on ITV1.
Emmerdale has revealed the reason for Wendy Posner's departure from the village.
Susan Cookson, who played Wendy, recently finished filming at the ITV soap after five years.
Show bosses kept Wendy's exit storyline under wraps when the news broke late last month, but all became clear in Thursday's episode as she faced a bitter backlash for betraying her friends and colleagues.
Wendy has recently been sharing information with a journalist for the Hotten Courier newspaper.

The local nurse was initially tricked into helping the reporter write a sensationalised article over April Windsor's disappearance.
When the journalist started blackmailing her for more, Wendy reluctantly shared details of Ella Forster's criminal past to protect her own secrets.
In Thursday's episode, Wendy regretted her actions and came clean to Liam Cavanagh over how the reporter had threatened to destroy her career.
Back in 2021, it was revealed that Wendy had failed to disclose criminal convictions when she applied to be a nurse. This meant that her professional qualification was based on deceit, which Liam agreed to cover up at the time.

As keeping quiet was no longer feasible, Wendy and Liam finally shared the truth with their Brook Cottage Surgery colleague Manpreet Sharma. When Manpreet pointed out that Wendy's position was untenable, she agreed to resign.
Continuing to face the music, Wendy also came clean to Ella about how she'd betrayed her. When Wendy's partner Bob Hope found out, he kicked her out of the B&B and declared their relationship to be over.
An ostracised Wendy turned to her only remaining ally Victoria Sugden for support.
Victoria offered to help her get back on good terms with everyone, but Wendy revealed that she'd already spoken to her son Luke about leaving the village.

She said: "It's too late for that. The damage is done and I can't undo it. I've spoken to Luke and he says I can have his spare room for as long as I like, so I'm leaving for good."
Can Wendy make amends with the villagers before she goes in tomorrow's episode?
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
