Emmerdale has aired a new twist in the relationship between Marlon Dingle and Rhona Goskirk after she spots a mysterious text on his phone.

Tonight's (January 2) hour-long episode ended on a sour note for Rhona. She noticed a message from Laurel Thomas on her husband's phone hinting at a secret between the two of them.

"Thanks for keeping quiet about us," the text read. "I couldn't cope without you."

When the girl, who tragically died hours later, was revealed to not be April, Marlon started to fear his daughter may be involved in the attack.

He confided in Rhona that the longer they wait, the higher the possibility that April may end up injured, or worse. Determined to go look for his daughter, he left Rhona and his jacket and phone behind, resulting in his wife seeing Laurel's text.

Meanwhile, Jacob got in trouble for alerting the relatives of a patient who he didn't identify first, with Dr Todd telling him off for being unprofessional and putting Rhona and Marlon through unnecessary grief.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
