Emmerdale has aired a dramatic court meltdown for Rhona Goskirk as she stood trial for Ivy's kidnapping.

Earlier this year, the vet made a shocking move when she took the baby her ex-husband Gus Malcolms had welcomed with his late wife Lucy. Rhona is Ivy's biological mum, as Gus stole her embryos given Lucy couldn't have children of her own.

Supported by her mother Mary and her husband Marlon Dingle, Rhona tried to clear the air with Gus before trial, insisting that regardless of the outcome, they both had Ivy's best interest at heart. Gus, however, replied he hoped she'd be locked up for good.

As he took the stand, Gus tried to appeal to the jury by opening up about his grief over Lucy's death and insisted that Rhona had manipulated him to convince him to get away from baby Ivy. Meanwhile, Rhona mouthed the word "liar," as Mary shook her head in disbelief.

The situation took a turn when Rhona's best friend Vanessa Woodfield was called to testify.

Vanessa shared she was never concerned about Ivy's wellbeing whilst she was with Rhona, but she ultimately crumbled under the pressure of the prosecution's questions.

"I was worried she wasn't thinking straight," Vanessa said about revealing Rhona's hideout to Marlon.

Vanessa called Rhona's decision "an act of desperation," but then she admitted she knew Ivy was "legally" not her friend's.

The prosecution barrister attempted to taint Rhona's character by quizzing Vanessa about her pal's past addiction to prescription drugs, causing Vanessa to shout to defend Rhona.

Despite Marlon speaking against Gus and condemning his embryos theft, the jury still appeared undecided.

When it was Rhona's turn to take the stand, the vet lost her composure and yelled that she intended to "fight" for her parental rights over Ivy.

"The law is an ass," she ultimately said, lashing out at Gus for stealing her embryos and keeping her biological daughter away from her.

After advising Rhona to compose herself, the judge adjourned for the day, leaving the vet to kick herself for getting so upset.

Later on, Gus revelled in his ex-wife's public capitulation, calling her "hysterical" and hinting at her going to jail soon.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
