Emmerdale spoilers follow.
Emmerdale has referenced an absent character as Chloe Harris's fate was revealed.
Thursday's (October 19) episode finally addressed the absence of Chloe's long-lost mum Kerry Wyatt, who has been AWOL throughout the aftermath of the car crash because she's working on a cruise ship.
Last seen on a video call with Dan Spencer before his exit, there was an update on Kerry when Amy revealed she was trying desperately to get in touch with her.

Amy was so uncertain about Kerry's whereabouts that she admitted to Matty she had no idea which ocean the ship was cruising on.

She confided in Matty that there was no telling when Kerry would actually get the message since service is choppy in the middle of the ocean. (Though, again, Amy wasn't sure which ocean.)
These scenes were made to cover for the absence of cast member Laura Norton, who has been on maternity leave from the ITV1 soap over the last several months.
Elsewhere in Thursday's episode, Chloe had a breakthrough when she was finally eased out of her induced coma a week after she was nearly killed when her car tumbled off a cliff.
Prior to Chloe waking up, Mack was given a stern dressing down from Chas Dingle for leaning on Charity while his fiancée was clinging to life.
"You have a new life to lead. Let [Charity] lead hers," Chas demanded.
Mack didn't follow Chas's advice, instead confessing to Charity that he'd never stopped loving her. He challenged Charity to look him in the eyes and say she didn't love him too.
"I will not be your backup plan," Charity insisted.
She then explained that she can't allow herself to love Mack anymore because he has a new life with Chloe and Reuben.
Their heartbreaking conversation was interrupted by Mack receiving a call from Amy telling him Chloe was waking up from her coma.
Mack joined Amy and Matty around Chloe's bedside before the camera shifted to Chloe's hazy perspective as she saw Matty and Amy watching over her.
When Amy asked her what she remembered from the car crash, Chloe first whispered "Mackenzie" but then said she remembered "nothing".
"I'm here now, and I'm not going anywhere," Mack swore.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
