Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale's executive producer Jane Hudson has officially confirmed plans to bring back a popular character later this year.

A familiar face will return to the village in the summer, just in time for an exciting wedding.

Back in December, Hudson had teased the possibility of a significant returning character for 2023, but the plans weren't confirmed at that stage.

However, in a new chat with Digital Spy and other media at a press event, Hudson explained: "You all know we love a summer wedding. [We have Charity and Mack's wedding this week], but I can tell you there is another wedding – at least one – coming up before we get to the end of summer. I won't tell you who.

"And we'll be having a familiar face returning before the end of summer. I think the audience will be absolutely delighted when this familiar face makes a return to the show.

"They'll be in the show hopefully for the foreseeable."

Asked who this mystery character could be connected to, Hudson replied: "Everybody's connected to somebody in Emmerdale. I could tell you a family and it wouldn't help you in the slightest!

"But they're lovely. They're coming back for one of the weddings. It's a lovely wedding."

The show's boss also dropped a hint on the wedding ceremony itself, confirming that it'll be very different from the chaos of Charity and Mackenzie donning A-Team fancy dress for their nuptials this week.

She said: "One of the weddings will be more traditional than Charity and Mackenzie's, I can tell you that. There will be no A-Team wigs or vans."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
