Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Cain Dingle's issues with his brother Caleb Miligan are mounting, with the village hardman's brother now issuing threats of his own.

In tonight's (January 13) episode, Caleb turned Cain's threats back on him after the Dingle patriarch told his long-lost brother to leave the village or he would kill him.

As Cain readjusted to life following his release from prison, he was still clearly upset about Caleb's intervention in the case. As his actions had led to his son Kyle Winchester confessing to the murder of Al Chapman and being taken away to a children's authority home.

Despite needing Caleb's help with Kyle's upcoming case, Cain revealed to the rest of his family he had told his brother to leave the village.

Later, Caleb showed up at the Dingle farm to speak to his brother. Cain was clearly frustrated about his brother's presence in the village, reminding him of the threat.

"Prison doesn't bother me, but you do," Cain told his brother.

However Caleb wasn't phased by his brother's words and reminded him that he can't force him to leave the village. Hoping to put their differences aside once and for all, Caleb asked his brother to have lunch with him.

"You've got a problem with me and I'm trying to fix it," Caleb said. "I'm also trying to fix your son's problems so you could show me something. Gratitude, humility."

However Cain refused to accept Caleb's help with his son's case, instead storming out of the restaurant.

Continuing the argument in the street, Caleb finally admitted defeat in mending the pair's relationship.

"I'll stop trying with you," Caleb conceded, but reaffirmed that he'll be staying in the village despite Cain's orders.

Cain lunged for his brother, seemingly about to make good on his threats. However, Caleb had an ultimatum of his own, reminding him that should something happen between the brothers it's Cain who has the criminal record.

"Come on Cain, you've got a record. You wouldn't be so stupid to put yourself back inside where you wouldn't be of use to Kyle," he warned.

"I don't have the tiniest blemish on my record, so if all this reaches some crescendo and I end up doing something to you, I'll be walking away and you might want to bear that in mind."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
