Emmerdale actor Kevin Mathurin addresses co-star's sad exit

Emmerdale actor Kevin Mathurin has addressed his co-star Katherine Dow Blyton's sad exit from the soap.

Back in October, Katherine's character Harriet Finch tragically died after suffering life-threatening injuries during the dramatic storm week as part of a 50th anniversary episode.

The hour-long special saw Harriet crash a quad bike as she searched for Amelia Spencer in the storm, and after lightning struck the crashed vehicle, it exploded leaving Harriet fatally injured.

Starring together in the soap, vicar Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) and Harriet (Katherine Dow Blyton), worked at the local church before Harriet returned to the police.

Addressing the sad departure of his former colleague and friend, Kevin told Inside Soap that he was just as surprised as viewers saying: "It was a shock to me too!

"I enjoyed doing my scenes with Katherine and we worked well together, plus I think Charles and Harriet's relationship was a really good one," he said of his co-star.

Though Kevin was shocked to see his friend exit the soap, he said the exciting stunt-filled send-off was "great".

"It's a shame – but with all the action and the stunts and everything, it was a great send-off!"

Speaking about her exit after nine years on the soap, Katherine said: "I will very much miss playing Harriet, although I won't miss wearing the police uniform!

"What I loved about coming into Emmerdale and what really made me want to play Harriet was because she was coming in as the vicar. I loved playing the vicar and the fact that she was flawed and she was a bit off-the-wall.

"She had a sense of humour, and I loved the character. I'll very much miss her, but she's with me obviously. We're not too dissimilar."

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV, and streams on the ITV Hub.
