Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale has aired Sally Dexter's emotional final scenes as Faith Dingle.

In the run-up to Sunday's (October 16) anniversary special, an hour-long episode on Thursday largely focused on the Dingle family saying goodbye to Faith much sooner than they'd planned.

Only Moira had known that Faith was planning to end her life until Chas caught onto her mum hinting she might not have long left.

Moira intervened in hopes of convincing Faith to change her mind, and while Faith agreed, she was actually sticking to her guns by secretly saying her goodbyes.

Cain only realised what Faith was planning after she'd already taken the drugs, so he rushed to her bedside to comfort her in their final moments.

The rest of the Dingles were gathered awaiting news, with Zak insisting Faith would "battle on yet". A deeply-conflicted Moira knew Faith had other plans in mind, but she kept silent.

However, the scene cut to Cain at Faith's bedside where her breathing was becoming more shallow. In a deeply personal moment, Cain held his mum and assured her he understood why she kept everything a secret.

"I love you, mum," Cain told her as he wept.

Cain held his mum and comforted her as she drifted off, telling her: "It's okay. You just need to go to sleep now."

He spoke about how Faith had given the family "the perfect day" during their big outing yesterday, then promised: "We've got that now, always. Always got that."

The episode ended with Cain hugging Faith as she slipped away…
