"This comes about because Millie suddenly feels left out because Home Farm is now Clemmie and Lucas's home as well, so it puts her nose out of joint," she said.

"Obviously Millie has been through a lot with Jamie. We find out that he's been treating Hazel and Millie really badly and almost keeping them prisoner.

"The only reason he allowed Millie to come to Thomas's christening a while ago was to get her passport so he could take her out of the country. Now he can't, he's done his runner to Rotterdam and Kim is left with this child, who's obviously going to have issues but she's still going to love her daddy," she added.

King also explained her character Kim's mindset throughout this situation.

"Kim is not one of those people who'll do something bad to Millie just because she doesn't like Jamie. She wants to protect this child, but Millie is feeling really unsettled and just doesn't want to be there. Millie wants to go back to Hazel and life with daddy and all the rest of it.

"She just disappears one day when they go to look for her and she's vanished. She's wandering around the village and she goes to find nurse Wendy – where she lived with her mother when Andrea was still alive," she said.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
