Emmerdale spoilers ahead

Emmerdale actor Michael Wildman thinks Al Chapman's deep feelings for Chas Dingle mean he'd fight for her if Paddy Kirk was to uncover their affair.

Following the news of Faith Dingle's terminal illness, her emotionally-compromised daughter's closeness with Al has entered adultery territory, with next week's episodes set to suggest things could go further than just the physical.

Wildman, who starred with the legendary Samuel L Jackson in Extras, told Inside Soap that his character is in it for the long haul.

"Part of me would love a happy ending for them as Al's pushing 50 years old – he needs to settle down!" he said.

On whether The Woolpack boss could actually be falling for Al, Wildman went on to point out: "Well, you have to ask the question: why does she keep letting him back in?

"After the affair with Debbie [Dingle], the stuff with Cain [Dingle] and Al destroying her pub, Chas still continues to tolerate him.

"They've always had a connection, so I'm not surprised they've had an affair. Paddy's the perfect man, but he's safe – and I think Al represents the fire and the danger that Chas feels she's missing."

With Belle Dingle about to catch them red-handed at a hotel together, how long can Al and Chas keep things on the down-low, and would she really choose him over husband Paddy?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
