Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano explains Matty's revenge against Suzy

Emmerdale star Ash Palmisciano has explained his character Matty Barton's shock revenge against Suzy Merton, whom he blames for her (inadvertent) role in the death of his sister Holly.

In upcoming scenes, Matty wrongly assumes that Suzy is making a drug deal when he catches her quizzing Callum on whether Leyla is still using drugs.

As Matty's thoughts turn back to revenge against Suzy, he impulsively steals Callum's bag of drugs from Take A Vow and plants it in Suzy's car before calling the police on her.

Palmisciano has now opened up about Matty's shock revenge, revealing that he's "getting more and more frustrated the more Suzy is living her life in the village", something his sister will never be able to do.

So when he spots what he believes to be a drug deal between Suzy and Callum, Palmisciano explains that Matty sees this as the perfect excuse "to pounce" and expose her.

"It's so much drugs that he thinks Suzy is even worse than I imagined – what is this woman doing? So he steals it and plants it in her car and calls the police on her," he shared.

"Matty thinks it's going to be an amazing way to expose who she really is – but as all good soaps go, there is more to the story than Matty is aware of. Bless him, he thinks he is going to expose but it goes a bit wrong…"

The actor went on to explain that Matty does this because "he wants to prevent her doing again in the village what she did to his sister".

He continued: "Matty's a good guy, he's not vindictive and feels he has a strong moral compass and feels he has to stop her from what she's been doing. He really believes it is the best for everybody and it's going to stop further people from dying in the future."

Driven by an "overwhelming grief" for Holly, Palmisciano added that Matty's ultimate goal is to get Suzy banged up, saying: "He wants her to go to prison to pay for what she’s done, not only to avenge his sister, but to all the other people who are supposedly under her spell.

"He's convinced Suzy is taking advantage of Leyla as well and is no good. So, he wants her to go to prison for what she's done but also so that his pain and guilt is dealt with – he won't feel bad for not being there for Holly because he's sorted it now with his revenge."
