Emmerdale star Laura Norton has revealed that she auditioned for the soap twice before landing the role of Kerry Wyatt – and now we finally know who she originally tried out for.

Kerry first appeared in the village back in 2012 and has been part of the Emmerdale furniture ever since, despite a few breaks along the way.

Now, while reflecting on her time on the ITV soap, Laura has revealed that she had initially hoped to join the Dales as Ali Spencer or Ruby Haswell.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Laura explained: "Me and my family had always watched Emmerdale and I'd auditioned before – however, it hadn't worked out, so I thought that ship had sailed."

"The casting director said I wasn't quite right for either, but a year later they called me in for Kerry. I was the first person they saw out of about 40. It was meant to be," she added.

As for how she feels about Kerry, Laura is still very much enjoying bringing the character to life. "I love her," the actress said.
