Chas Dingle and Paddy Kirk's struggles are set to be explored in a special lockdown episode of Emmerdale airing next week.

Chas (Lucy Pargeter) in particular is seen worrying about the future of The Woolpack, which has been essentially shut down for dine-in service during the pandemic, and she struggles to connect with partner Paddy (Dominic Brunt) during their time in lockdown too.

Speaking ahead of the episode airing next Monday (June 22), Lucy has admitted that she too has been struggling during the lockdown period.

"I went into [lockdown] thinking I'm going to be really creative and do something different everyday," she said.

"Then tiredness kicked in, and monotony kicked in, and missing my mates and then the massive weight of responsibility kicked in. I'm here on my own with my three kids.

"I'm used to being a single mum, but then you have to put into the mix that you're actually trying to fight to keep your children alive and the fear of what would happen if I became sick.

"It's all the implications. It's a life and death situation for so many people, and that has hit me massively," she added.

Lucy went on to add that she has struggled with anxiety during the lockdown too, sharing that she had to ask her friends for help when she had trouble getting her shopping delivered.

"Luckily, no one close to me has been affected, but anxiety has been massive and the enormity of the whole situation," she continued.

"I got very sick of people posting all their achievements rather than the reality. Plus I have had a really stressful time with online shopping, as I couldn't get a slot for six weeks. I was relying on my mates around me and my work mates to go shopping for me.

"I'm very staunch in that I wanted to provide and be in control of everything and asking for help from my friends just wasn't me," she added. "To say to my friends, 'I can't go shopping and we have nothing in the house', well it has been a massive learning curve."

And while she's usually not one to ask for help, the situation has made Lucy realise how grateful she is to have to have people around her she can rely on.

"I have realised that I have so many people around me I can rely on and we're so close," Lucy said.

"Even not being so close in proximity has proved that we're willing to go above and beyond for each other, it's really cemented my friendships. I feel very blessed to have them."

Emmerdale airs Chas and Paddy's special lockdown episode on Monday, June 22 at 7pm on ITV.
