Emmerdale spoilers for future scenes follow.
Chas Dingle will have reason to worry about The Woolpack's future in upcoming Emmerdale scenes.
Following the recent problems at home with Paddy (Dominic Brunt) and baby Eve (Eve Rowlinski and Talitha Taylor), Chas (Lucy Pargeter) is set to have stress at work because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Woolpack has been essentially shut down for dine-in service to preserve the public health in the village, leaving Chas feeling alienated from the life she's known for years.
Chas can't seem to connect with Paddy either, as he is more concerned with drinking the excess stock of alcohol in the pub. Yet, he begins to think about his actions and all the couple have been through with their parenting journey when Chas breaks down during a Clap for Carers one night.
Paddy comes up with a big idea for how the couple can reinvigorate their lives – though it might take some serious convincing for Chas to get on board!
What to Read Next
Lucy Pargeter has previewed these scenes ahead of their airing next week, revealing Chas and Paddy are in a perilous place in their marriage when the soap revisits them in lockdown.
"When we went into lockdown, we had just explored Paddy feeling under real stress because of his anxiety over Eve, that's where we left things and they'd kind of talked it through and found some kind of agreement that should he ever feel like that again he was to open up," she explained.
"So when we go into this lockdown episode, Chas' state of mind is now one of her realising how not having the pub open and that connection with the village has altered things. She is very much part of the DNA of the village and she's floundering slightly without that connection to others.
"I think we get a lot of ourselves from other people (as a lot of us have found out), all of a sudden Chas is alone in the Woolpack without any interaction from the outside world and I think she does feel somewhat futile and without purpose. She is looking after a baby, cooking and cleaning, but without her job and that isn't her really."
With the soap still reflecting the lockdown in these episodes, Pargeter suggested Chas has "every right" to be considered that The Woolpack might not survive.
"There aren't many people sitting in lockdown with no worries thinking it doesn't matter how long it goes on because they have an endless pot of money that will pay the bills and look after their kids and keep them fed, clothed and watered," she said.
"The Woolpack is her livelihood and with the state of how things are at the moment, pubs and the leisure industry is one of the last things that will be opened up so it's a massive strain on her.
"Paddy thinks if he tells himself everything will be okay then it will be, but she's a Dingle, and she knows the hard times and the good times so she's very aware that this may not be great for them."
Emmerdale currently airs on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm on ITV as part of a new strategy to keep the soap on air throughout the pandemic. These scenes air Monday, June 22.
