Emmerdale is set to air emotional scenes next week as Robert Sugden faces a life-changing decision.

Robert (Ryan Hawley) will go before the court over charges that he assaulted Victoria's (Isabel Hodgins) rapist Lee Posner (Kris Mochrie) earlier this year, after Lee taunted the family over the sexual assault.

Next week, Robert will make the unadvisable decision to plead not guilty on the grounds of self-defence against the opinion of his own legal team. Only Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) backs him up over this extremely controversial choice.

Robert's decision is tortuous for Victoria because she witnessed the attack first-hand and knows that he definitely was not acting in self-defence. She faces even more pressure when Robert stakes his entire case on her testimony.

The tension proves to be too much for Victoria to handle, as she eventually confesses to a stunned Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) that she already lied in her sworn statement to police to back up Robert.

With the clock ticking down to the trial, Victoria has to make a decision on whether she can take the stand to lie once again for her family. If she doesn't, it might mean Robert will go to jail for a very long time.
