Emmerdale star Amy Walsh has revealed that Tracy Metcalfe will be fighting to prove Frank Clayton's innocence after the factory fire.

Frank was killed in the blaze earlier this week after Kerry Wyatt's criminal actions had tragic consequences, but the ITV soap has already started to plant seeds suggesting that the wrong person could be blamed for the tragedy.

Viewers know that Frank fell out with Jai on the day of the fire. After Jai sacked him for poor timekeeping and lack of commitment to his job at the factory, Frank warned him that he'd live to regret the way he treats people one day.

Friday's episode (August 2) saw Jai dwell on this comment as the dust settled, making it clear to Megan Macey that he'd have to tell the police in case it's significant.

Speaking about Tracy's role in the twists and turns ahead, Amy explained: "It's 100% the most challenged I've ever been. I've done a lot of crying before in plays and obviously in Emmerdale you've seen Tracy cry a lot.

"This is another extreme. Tracy is absolutely broken in the aftermath of this. She's completely in turmoil and driven to prove that Frank has nothing to do with why the fire started.

"So it's a massive storyline for her, with the fallout of it all and clearing his name. She 100% believes that it's not him and not his fault.

"As you saw, she was trapped in a cupboard and he saved her, so she's got the guilt of that as well. She feels like it should have been her and it was her fault that he died. The reason she was in the cupboard was to meet Billy for a quickie, which just makes things even worse for her."

Discussing how suspicion of Frank spreads, Amy continued: "Blame is put on Frank quite early on because of his dodgy dealings with money, stealing and stuff.

"Megan is convinced by other people in the village that it must be him and there's no other explanation. So there is a bit of a fractured time between them, but that's mainly because Tracy is going: 'You can't believe that this was dad'."

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with extra episodes at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
