Emmerdale has hinted at a devastating feud for Vanessa Woodfield and Tracy Metcalfe in the aftermath of Frank Clayton's death.

The sisters had an upsetting argument in the closing moments of Friday night's episode (August 2), as the truth came out over Frank's sad demise.

With the villagers still in shock over Frank losing his life in the factory fire, Tracy (Amy Walsh) was among those who faced police questioning over her role in what happened.

Speaking to DI Goldberg while Vanessa (Michelle Hardwick) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) were watching on, Tracy was forced to sheepishly admit the reason she got locked in the factory storeroom and needed to be saved by Frank.

Tracy explained to the detective that she was playfully waiting for her love interest Billy Fletcher so they could sleep together, but her revelations sent Vanessa into a fury.

Full of grief and needing someone to blame once DI Goldberg had left, Vanessa urged Tracy to come clean if there was another, more damning, reason for her strange behaviour that day.

Once it became clear that Tracy was telling the truth, an inconsolable Vanessa ranted: "Anything would be better than this, anything. I can't accept that my dad died because you wanted to have a jump with some bloke who didn't even show up.

"It's the most banal, pathetic thing I have ever heard, and if it's true, it means he died for nothing. And you made that happen."

As Vanessa continued to turn against her sister, a traumatised Tracy fled from the room in tears.

Charity was shocked by her fiancée's harsh outburst, but Vanessa pointed out that she was the one who'd had to identify Frank's body at the morgue earlier that day.

Could Vanessa and Tracy be brought back together again once the situation isn't so raw, or has their sisterly relationship now changed forever?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7pm on ITV, with extra episodes at 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
