Claire King has discussed her thought process before choosing to rejoin the cast of Emmerdale.

The soap icon plays the infamous Kim Tate on the ITV show, and caused no end of chaos for a decade before leaving in 1999.

She's back on a permanent basis now, but it sounds like the world of social media almost scared her off from reprising the role.

Speaking to OK! magazine, Claire said of her concern: "I was nervous about doing the role justice again. A lot has changed since I've been away. Everybody's a critic now thanks to social media and some of the comments can be very cutting."

She then explained how all of the cast and crew happily welcomed her back, which made it feel "like going home".

"Some people think I'm really Kim Tate because they forget the show isn't real life," she continued, before mentioning a rather unique fan interaction she once had.

"I was hit over the head with an umbrella in M&S by an old lady once, because Kim had been cruel to Frank."

This week's OK! magazine is out today.

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with an extra episode at 8pm on Thursdays.
