Former EastEnders star Samantha Womack has revealed why fans have started warning her when they see her in public.

The actor, who played Ronnie Mitchell in the BBC soap between 2007 and 2017, has joked that viewers come up to her and tell her that her boyfriend Oliver Farnworth is one to keep an eye on.

Of course, it's not a reflection upon the actor himself, but rather his character, John Sugden, from ITV soap Emmerdale.

Initially coming across as a calm and kind figure, it has slowly been revealed that John is a dodgy doctor who likes to engineer life-threatening situations so he can save people and bask in the glory of being a hero.

Ultimately, this has ended up with him killing more people than he's saved, and as his various secrets threaten to be exposed, he's gotten increasingly desperate — and not to mention dangerous.

"I do get warned about him," Womack told The Sun, revealing that her other half doesn't keep her up to date on John's misdemeanours.

"Oli is actually so strict about confidentiality. So he comes back every few days and he won't tell me what's happening with anything." she said.

"He's like, 'I just can't let you know,' and I'll say, 'come on, I'm not going to tell anybody.'"

Womack, who lives in Spain with Farnworth, added: "I really think this is one of his favourite jobs to date.

"I visited the [Emmerdale] set and it’s beautiful. They have rolling hills and cute cottages. It's very different to EastEnders.

"And what is funny is he gets a lot of attention when he goes up north, but when we go down south everyone knows me from EastEnders, so it changes [depending on] where we go."

Recently, Womack opened up about how she felt when she learned that Ronnie was being axed from EastEnders under the soap's then-new producer.

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast. Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
