EastEnders star Michelle Collins has revealed the secret hope of new cast members on the soap.

Appearing on The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, Collins was asked about her character Cindy Beale's recent return to the Square, in a blackmail plot which saw her become the new owner of the Prince Albert bar.

The actor addressed whether the acquisition would entitle Cindy to more dramatic cliffhangers (widely referred to as 'doof doofs').

"It's at the very end of the episode of EastEnders, the very, very last scene and then it goes doof doof doof doof doof," explained Collins.

The star revealed that the iconic final scene moment is a big deal for the cast. She explained that "people still look at the end of the script first" in order to find out how the episode will end.

"I mean it's a lot. Your face is the last person to appear and you get the end credit. So, if I got a doof doof, it would go 'Cindy Beale – Michelle Collins'. You get that."

While EastEnders is known for its shocking cliffhangers, Collins, who joined the soap in 1988, shared that the novelty of getting a doof doof has worn off for her.

"Listen, for me, without sounding blasé or nonchalant, it's not that important anymore to get a doof doof," she said. "But if you are a newbie in the show and you get a doof doof, my god, you've made it."

She then asked host Chris Evans to guess which actor had received the most doof doofs ever on the show, with Evans correctly guessing Steve McFadden, who has played Phil Mitchell since 1990.

"Yes, you're right, Steve McFadden. Then Letitia [Dean, who plays Sharon Watts], I think. Then it's Adam [Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale]," Collins said.

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
