EastEnders has planned a new showdown between the Mitchell family as Grant and Billy are set to clash as part of Phil's ongoing mental health storyline.

Phil has struggled with his mental health over the past few weeks, leaving his friends and family worried for his wellbeing.

Having previously attempted to take his own life, things came to a head during the show's 40th-anniversary week when Phil's brother Grant made his return to Walford to intervene.

After Phil held a gun to his head, Linda Carter, Nigel Bates and Grant attempted to talk him down before he finally pulled the trigger. The gun was empty and Phil later agreed to attend a mental health facility.

In today's episode, Grant visited Phil and apologised for walking out on him when Phil needed him last week. Phil refused to forgive Grant and cut ties with him for good.

In scenes that will air tomorrow night, tempers will flare in the Mitchell family as Billy and Grant try to blame each other for failing Phil, and Teddy and Harry try to keep the furious cousins apart.

Newly released images, in which Billy can be seen shouting at Grant, tease the showdown between the angry family members.

Previously speaking about his return to the soap, Grant actor Ross Kemp said: "I'm only back for a short period of time but it's pretty impactful. He certainly comes back with bang – they didn't have time to drop me in gently.

"There's no soft landing if you've been part of that inner circle on EastEnders. People said to me, 'Did you get a chance to catch up with people?' And I said, 'Not really', because you're on a rollercoaster. From the moment you get on the set it's like, you're off!"

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
