EastEnders spoilers follow from Monday's episode (February 24), which is available to watch now on streaming service BBC iPlayer but hasn't yet aired on BBC One.

EastEnders has hinted that Kathy Beale will go unpunished for her brutal attack against Cindy.

Ian came out fighting for Kathy in Monday's episode by making some worrying threats against Cindy.

Last week, the show's 40th anniversary episodes revealed that Kathy was the mystery culprit who'd hit Cindy over the head with a shovel and left her for dead on Christmas Day.

Cindy was shocked to uncover Kathy's guilt but quickly had more pressing matters to worry about when they were both caught up in the explosion drama at the Queen Vic.

Monday's episode saw Ian sternly question Cindy over her intentions after she was discharged from her latest stint in hospital.

Cindy initially toyed with Ian by declaring that she hadn't decided whether to report Kathy to the police.

Turning the tables, Ian threatened to expose a few of Cindy's own misdeeds if she caused any trouble for Kathy.

Cindy pointed out that it'd be tough to forget Kathy's brutal behaviour, even though Kathy ultimately took steps to redeem herself by saving Cindy's life in last week's explosion.

Using last week's dramatic events as leverage, Ian warned: "You'll have to [forget]. Otherwise, I'll be forced to remember this isn't a shrapnel wound.

"I'll tell the police that you shot me, that you pushed me in front of a car, which ploughed into The Vic and killed my cousin.

"Attempted murder, manslaughter – they will lock you away for years. Or you can keep your mouth shut. We'll draw a line under this and you get to walk away."

Cindy was baffled by Ian's decision, but he insisted that everybody had suffered enough already and he wanted his ex's answer by tomorrow.

Ian added: "Truce or no truce, I'll never forgive you. You have got blood on your hands – and all the pain everyone is going through out there, that's on you."

Last week, Gillian Taylforth – who plays Kathy – spoke about her character's guilt in the two-month whodunit mystery.

Gillian said: "Kathy has seen Ian be hurt by Cindy time and time again, and so I think she finally thought, enough is enough.

"Kathy knew that Cindy would try and worm her way back into Ian's life at the next chance that she got because she always does, and ultimately Kathy did what she did to protect her son.

"Ian is a fool in love when it comes to Cindy, and Kathy couldn't let him get hurt by her again. Don't forget that Cindy tried to kill Ian, so in Kathy's eyes, it's payback."

EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
