EastEnders star Shona McGarty has revealed her friendship with new co-star Kirsty J Curtis.
The newcomer featured in the soap's special episodes earlier this week (March 5), which saw McGarty's character Whitney Dean visit her step-mum Bianca Jackson in Milton Keynes.
The episodes explored Whitney's concern over the wellbeing of Britney, a child living on Bianca's estate — which led to a heated confrontation with the teen's mum Keeley (Curtis).

Shortly after the scenes aired, McGarty took to Instagram to post a carousel of behind-the-scenes snaps of the pair, revealing that they have formed a strong bond despite their on-screen falling out.

"Had the most amazing time working with this incredibly talented woman! When I filmed my first scene with Kirsty, she made me 'up my game!'" she said.
"She is a powerhouse! Such a gritty performance. I'm so glad I got to work with you! Had such a laugh. Defo friend for life @kirstyjcurtis. Hope to work with you again soon!"

Curtis also took to the comments to share her admiration for her co-star, saying: "Omg girl!!!! Stop it I'll get emosh, loving every single second because of you, ya superstar!
"The most gorgeous human ever!!! My monster munch buddy for life!!!! Couldn't have asked for a better on screen rival. Love you really! Shinty Mcginty is the best!"
Following the showdown between Whitney and Keeley, which led to Whitney being hit by a car and hospitalised, McGarty explained how the storyline affects her character.

"Keeley hasn't been looking after [Britney] at all and Whitney feels incredibly sorry for her. She tries to help her and wants to take her under her wing. Britney reminds Whitney of herself at that age," she said.
"Obviously Zack [Hudson, Whitney's partner] was fostered so he has an understanding, but he's just so concerned about this baby that he goes back to the Square without Whitney and Whitney makes Britney her main priority instead of Zack which is quite sad," she added.
The Milton Keynes episodes aired as part of Whitney's exit story, following McGarty's decision to leave the soap last July.
EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
