EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders finally unveiled the victim and killer's identities of its ten-month whodunit, meaning it was the end of the road for one character.

In the episode that aired on Christmas Day, the soap saw Linda Carter killing Keanu Taylor to defend Sharon Watts, with actor Danny Walters officially exiting the soap.

Speaking after the big twist reveal, Walters admitted struggling to keep Keanu's death a secret.

"It's been extremely difficult! I feel like I've been very deceitful to my friends and my family [laughs] and have made many excuses!" he said. "But, I wanted the storyline to have as much impact as possible for the audience, so I've tried my best to keep everything a secret and hopefully that's paid off."

Walters praised the script for the hotly-anticipated episode, saying: "The writing in the script was fantastic, and every character had such a great storyline throughout the whole episode.

"For my character, the episode is a real rollercoaster of emotions from the highs and the lows. It was such a pleasure to be part of."

Not everyone saw Keanu's death coming as the day started off with a long-overdue celebration for the character and his partner Sharon, played by Letitia Dean. The two got ready to tie the knot but, in true EastEnders fashion, things didn't go to plan when he was caught out for staging Albie's kidnap with Karen, resulting in Sharon calling the wedding off and dropping a bombshell: Albie is Phil's biological son, not Keanu's.

"It was a great storyline to be a part of, and it is that traditional EastEnders wedding in the way it doesn't go to plan," Walters said.

"Filming it was fantastic and seeing Letitia Dean walk down the aisle, she looked so beautiful. It was amazing to film those scenes with her and to see how far our characters had come. It's been a big journey for them.

"I think Keanu has always wanted that and wanted Sharon, and to finally have his chance to make her his wife. Obviously in traditional EastEnders style it didn't go to plan!"

As Walford residents will now have to grapple with the consequences, Walters reflected on his role in such an ambitious arc for the BBC soap.

"It was great to be a part of. I hope the viewers have enjoyed the storyline. As myself, I'm a small part of the bigger puzzle, but hopefully my piece of this puzzle has made an impact," he said, then confessing he's kept a memento from set — "[Keanu's] greasy mechanic 'Taylors Autos' overalls."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
