EastEnders star Letitia Dean has admitted she was surprised over the recent twist involving Sharon's son Albie.

Last month, Sharon made the life-changing discovery that her ex-husband Phil was actually Albie's biological father, not her fiancé Keanu.

Sharon has decided to keep the news to herself, determined to still have a happy ending with Keanu, but his sister Bernie could pose a threat to that by potentially exposing another secret on Christmas Day.

Speaking about the story development at an EastEnders press event, Letitia – who plays Sharon – said to Digital Spy and other media: "I was very surprised, because I had no idea to start with.

"I do think that Sharon really wanted a happy ending with Keanu, and as much as she's got that 30-year history with Phil, she thought this was it and that this was going to be the happy family – the happy ever after. It's mixed reactions, really."

Recalling how she first heard about the plot, Letitia said: "I was on the phone and the others were all in work – we had a meeting with Chris on the phone and we all went, 'Oh my God, we've never done anything like this, have we?'.

"It was quite shocking and exciting, but thinking about the year ahead – we were all really excited.

"I'm very honoured to be part of a big story like this. We've been chosen as The Six, as it were, and what a wonderful idea. What a wonderful idea for us all."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
