EastEnders spoilers follow.
EastEnders boss Chris Clenshaw has offered some early teasers on his plans for the show in 2023.
Clenshaw was appointed as the BBC soap's boss in November 2021 and his first credited episodes began airing in July. Prior to this, he had worked on the show for four years from 2015.
Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at an EastEnders Christmas press event earlier this week, Clenshaw named some characters worth keeping an eye on in the New Year.

"This week there's a nice treat in store for you," he said. "We've got a lovely performance from the one and only Rag'n'Bone man in Albert Square. We always knew that Rag'n'Bone Man, Rory, was a fan of the show and the opportunity came up within the story and we approached him.

"He's a natural, he really is. He's a big fan and he absolutely loved the experience. I hope you'll enjoy it because he's done a really great job and we're really proud of it."
"We've got a big story for Stacey and Martin that kicks off at New Year", Clenshaw continued. "It's something I don't really want to say too much about but Lacey [Turner] and James [Bye] are at the centre of that and they'll obviously shine.
"Over Christmas and New Year, Phil and Keanu are going head to head and Kat finds herself in a terrible situation.

"Watch out for Jack and Denise as well – their relationship is going to be tested. Someone else is going 'weak at Denise' but the question is whether she will resist or whether she'll be tempted..."
Finally, Clenshaw referenced Lola's ongoing story as another one to watch out for next year.
"Danielle [Harold] is also doing a beautiful job at the moment," he said. "She's already had the nation weeping and there's lots to come.
"Patsy Kensit is joining us. She plays Lola's mum so she'll add a new element to the story. There's a lot to get excited about in 2023."
