EastEnders' old set looks likely to be demolished under new planning proposals submitted by the BBC.
The application, which pertains to the old Albert Square set which is now no longer in use, would see a complete demolition in order to preserve healthy and safety standards
As per the written application, the previous set has had issues with “deterioration”.
A BBC spokesperson told Digital Spy: “In line with previously documented plans, the site is no longer being maintained and so is being cleared for health and safety reasons.”

Part of the rationale for not maintaining the site was the “prohibitive” costs, with the removal of these structures reportedly allowing for the construction of new sets for EastEnders.

After his latest stint on the show, actor Shane Richie spoke of how he was convinced to return by producer Chris Clenshaw.
“He said, 'Listen, we want the old Alfie. Because over the years there's been all very different Alfies and my favourite Alfie is from 2002 to 2005'. And that's the Alfie we've got back.
“Chris was so instrumental in telling me the long-term storyline with Alfie, and it's the old Alfie,” he continued. “You know, the guy who looked after his Nana Moon and wore his heart on his sleeve and tries to make light of everything.”
