EastEnders star Shane Richie teases Alfie and Linda twist

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Shane Richie has hinted that his character Alfie Moon will start flirting with Linda Carter when he returns to Walford.

Alfie arrives back on Albert Square later this month and will be thrown straight into a major storyline with his ex-wife Kat Slater and Phil Mitchell.

The popular character reappears on the day of Kat and Phil's wedding, leaving fans to wonder whether he could throw a spanner in the works.

However, with Shane suggesting a possible romantic edge in Alfie and Linda's scenes too, it's clear that things won't be plain sailing.

Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at a recent EastEnders press event, Shane explained: "20 years later, after all the things that have happened between Kat and Alfie, there's still a spark there.

"So now Alfie's become Phil Mitchell's nemesis and there's some wonderful scripts where Alfie is calling Phil to his face 'Mr Potato Head' or 'Gru from the Minions'.

"The only reason Alfie gets away with it is because he knows Kat's standing there and Kat won't let anything happen to him while she's standing in the room and so this is where we get the comedy and drama.

"And yet Alfie's still burning the candle for Kat and he's trying to convince Kat that she feels the same. I'm playing storylines at the moment where you go, will they?"

He added: "But now, between us lot… Alfie and Linda…. That's all I'm going to say! But is Alfie using Linda to get to Kat?"

Could Shane be leading us up the garden path, or has he given away a major new storyline? Only time will tell.

In the meantime, Linda is currently at the centre of a huge storyline herself, as she fights to prove that she's a fit parent to her daughter Annie following Janine Butcher's cruel scheming.
