EastEnders spoilers follow.
EastEnders' executive producer Chris Clenshaw has spoken about his decision to bring back Alfie Moon.
Show bosses recently announced that Shane Richie had agreed to reprise his role as Alfie, who'll be back on screen later this month.
Alfie's ex-wife Kat Slater is currently preparing to marry Phil Mitchell. However, with Alfie reappearing on the day of the wedding, could he throw a spanner in the works at the last minute?
Speaking to Digital Spy and other media at a recent EastEnders press event, Clenshaw explained why he wanted to reintroduce Alfie.

He said: "I think it was inevitable. Phil and Kat are together. Alfie is the love of Kat's life. We had to bring him back and the right moment to bring him back was on their wedding day.
"He's the old Alfie, he's the lovable rogue, he makes a lot of mistakes but he's always got good intentions, he really has.
"I think even if we hadn't been telling this story, I would have found a way to bring Alfie back. I'm very fond of Alfie. He's an iconic character."
Clenshaw also pointed out that this November will mark 20 years since Alfie first arrived in Walford.

Reminiscing over the popular character, he explained: "I think I said this to Shane months ago. 20 years ago when I watched Alfie pop up on screen, I watched with my mum and sister, and my dad in the corner reading his red top.
"My dad was a market trader, a bit of a Del Boy and very much like Alfie. We were shouting at my dad saying 'it's you, it's you!' I've always had such a connection to Alfie."
Alfie's return scenes will air on Monday, September 12.
