EastEnders aired bittersweet exit scenes for fan-favourite character Honey Mitchell.

Though this isn't a permanent departure for cast member Emma Barton, Honey bid farewell to Walford in an emotional episode on Friday night (January 17).

This week's episodes have seen Honey's ex-husband Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) desperately trying to convince her to let him help her through her struggle with an eating disorder.

Honey has battled issues with food since her teenage years, but her latest relapse occurred following her break-up with Adam Bateman (Stephen Rahman-Hughes).

Honey finally admitted she had a problem in Thursday's episode, after daughter Janet said she wanted to be like her mum by not eating during her meals.

Determined to set a better example for her children, Honey forced herself to eat a meal in front of Janet and Will — much to Billy's relief.

But the whole experience proved to be too much for Honey, as she finally understood she couldn't handle the problem by herself.

In hugely emotional scenes, Honey told a heartbroken Billy that she would have to go stay with her aunt for a time while she got treatment.

"You love me too much to give me the help I need," she explained to him.

The two then explained to the children that Honey would have to help nurse her aunt back to health, and while they were getting their coats, Billy gave his ex a supportive hug.

"You can do this, Hon. I believe in you," he assured her, with Honey telling him: "I have to."

Fans shouldn't expect Honey to be away from Albert Square for too long. It was reported last month that Emma Barton is just taking a five week break from filming to appear on the Strictly Come Dancing live tour with her professional partner Anton Du Beke.

The Strictly tour is set to wrap up early in February with a three-night stint at London's O2 Arena.

EastEnders continues on Monday (January 20) at 8pm on BBC One.
