Coronation Street's Tina O'Brien has discussed how David Platt's male rape storyline will affect his family members.

The actress, who plays David's sister Sarah, said to the Daily Star: "It's quite a solitary storyline. Usually there are a few people involved, but this is all about David coping on his own with what has happened to him.

"It's interesting to see how [David's] behaviour affects everyone else. We're all trying to work out what's wrong with him because he's behaving really weird."

Tomorrow's (April 9) episodes see David (Jack P Shepherd) unleash his fury and despair in the worst way – lashing out at Sarah's boyfriend Gary at the charity boxing match and leaving him at death's door.

While Sarah is furious with her sibling and vows to move out from under the same roof as him, Tina reckons that her character will ultimately support David when she learns that he was sexually assaulted by evil Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton).

"I think Sarah will be there to help David when the truth comes out," Tina added.

As for Sarah and Gary (Mikey North), they have issues of their own to sort out. They might be together again, but with his and Nicola's baby due to arrive soon, the pressure is on for this blended family to make the best of the situation.

"I think it might take a while for them to get back to normal after everything he's done to her," said Tina. "I really like them as a couple.

"It would be lovely for Sarah and Gary to heave their own home, but at the same time, I'd miss the Platts' so much.

"I love it when we get to do scenes with all the Platts. I just go, 'This is real life'. It's a bit noisy and messy, it feels real."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
