Coronation Street's unexpected new friendship between Theo Silverton and Gary Windass has a real-life twist.
In recent weeks, Theo's estranged wife Danielle has begun dating Noah, the man who subjected Theo to conversion therapy.
In upcoming scenes, Theo trashes the builder's yard after discovering that his family have been used to promote Noah's homophobic campaign.
When Gary discovers a broken Theo, Gary swears to get revenge on Noah, arming himself with a hammer and promising to just give Noah a warning.
Opening up about the support he's received from Gary, Theo actor James Cartwright said that he and Gary actor Mikey North have a real-life friendship.

"What Theo likes about Gary is he sees him as a man's man, he's a builder, and he's from Theo’s world which is scaffolding, yet he is completely accepting of the fact that Theo is a gay man.
"If anything, he’s not only accepting, he’s outraged that Noah is behaving the way he is with his family and towards Theo."
On what to expect from Gary's upcoming outburst at Noah, Cartwright said that Gary has a strong moral compass despite his unorthodox methods.

"He gets to the point where he just can’t see his friend being treated like that," the soap star explained. "So he takes it upon himself to serve a bit of vigilante justice."
On whether Gary's actions might further jeopardize Theo's future with his kids, Cartwright said: "He's grateful to Gary in a way for that loyalty, but it's also come at a time when he's fighting for custody of his kids and one wrong move could mean curtains for him.
"And whatever Theo is, he is a family man, and his children mean everything to him."
