Former Coronation Street star Craig Charles has shared a health update with fans following a last-minute show cancellation.

Charles, best known for his role as Dave Lister in the science fiction sitcom Red Dwarf, was due to appear at Showmasters London Film & Comic Con at the weekend alongside his Red Dwarf co-stars Danny John-Jules, Hattie Hayridge and Robert Llewellyn.

However, the star, who also appeared on season fourteen of I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!, was forced to pull out after becoming "violently ill".

Taking to X, Charles shared an update, apologising to fans and event organisers for being unable to make the event.

"I’d just like to say sorry to showmasters and the fans at comicon. I made it to the hotel but woke up at 3 this morning with stomach pains," Charles penned.

Without going into too much detail, the former soap star said he was unwell throughout the night and made the decision to return home to Manchester.

He said: "I then proceeded to be violently ill for hours. Not a pretty sight. I tried to see if it would wear off but at 10 am I called it off and came back to Manchester."

Finishing off the post, Charles said he was on the mend, telling fans he was already looking forward to the next event.

"I’m feeling slightly better now and I’m drinking lots of water and electrolytes," he wrote. "Again sorry for the cancellation and I look forward to next time."
